About the event
The Karrimor Great Trail Challenge takes place on Sunday 17 June 2012, starting and finishing in Keswick.
Brought to you by the organisers of the Bupa Great North Run and the British Gas Great North Swim, the event features marathon, half marathon and 10km distances all staged on the same day- providing something for everyone, from established trail runners to walkers.
The event is positioned on a safe and clearly marked route, which consists of one long course and one short course. The route for each distance varies, see below for details:
10km – Perfect for those who want to walk, jog or run, 10km participants will complete one lap of the short course (indicated on the map). There will be a separate wave for walkers setting off after the runners. It heads out flat along the old Keswick Railway track for about 2 miles, climbs over the northern shoulder of Latrigg Fell, before making its way back down Cumbria Way to the finish. See the route map for course and ascent details.
Half Marathon – The half marathon consists of one lap of the short course, and one lap of the long course. After the old Keswick Railway track, the long lap turns right up toward Wescoe Farm and onto Lonscale Farm, taking the runners to the highest point of 399m. It then makes its way back down Cumbria Way to the finish. See the route map for course and ascent details.
Marathon – The marathon covers two laps of the long course and two laps of the short course. See the route map for course and ascent details.
The marathon, half marathon and 10km events will take place on the same day and will be set off in waves, with the first wave starting at approximately 10:00. A full timetable will be available closer to the time, keep checking here for further information.
Your entry fee includes a medal, Karrimor Great Trail Challenge t-shirt, finisher’s pack and chip timing, to enable you to receive an accurate finishing time after the event.
